How do you draw the line between attacked, shot, tortured, death. Some people are shot and bleed to death.... some die instantly.  Some are beaten and tied up for many days but don't die. Others are shot or axed, beaten, chopped and knifed - become paralyzed or blind, but they are not dead. 

Collecting accurate records of South Africans murdered daily in South Africa is, indeed, difficult. Many incidents are merely ignored and fall along the wayside.

How do you draw the line between attacked, shot, tortured, raped and death. Some people are shot and bleed to death.... some die instantly.  Some are beaten and tied up, but don't die. Others are shot and become paralyzed or blind, but they are not dead. This is all very difficult to categorize.  Being shot, tied down, raped or beaten, are all forms of torture, and live inside your mind forever.

ACCURACY - - - WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE? Besides the fact that many cases are not recorded, some victims die some time after the attack due to injuries sustained during the attack, and these deaths may not be made public. 
The information is mostly taken from newspaper articles and the dates given may vary from the exact date of attack. Where the actual day of the week is given, this is more accurate.
                           
These records are based on WHERE the attack took place. If a farmer was attacked inside a town, it would not be a farm attack, but an urban attack. Should a visitor from the city be attacked on a farm, it would be a farm/rural attack.
If the attack is on a rural road, it would be listed under a rural attack, and if the attack is in a city street it is an urban attack.

Where more than one person with different surnames suffer during the same attack, the description of the attack is given under only one name. Where the attack involves murder, all the victim names are given but may refer to the victim which carries the summary of the attack and reference is made by using the word SEE ...
       
THE REASON for drawing up these records is to find an accurate picture of what is going on in South Africa regarding the attacks on its nation.
                                             

Shockingly, some names and/or fact have been withheld from the public. Often little or no respect and care is shown for the deceased.
